ENGLISH PROFICIENCY EXAM for MASTER students at MUST

Date: November 23rd, 2013

Venue: Main campus of MUST

Written Test (total 100 points) is supposed to be taken for 90 minutes and included the following tasks:

  1. GRAMMAR and VOCABULARY /40 points/ contains tasks in English simple and perfect verb tenses, to and –ing verbs, comparisons (as…as), passive voice, be supposed to, was/were going to, phrasal verbs, causative get and have. Grammar and vocabulary tasks will be given in the form of multiple choices, filling in the missing words, matching phrases, completing sentences. Also the multiple choice tasks from all possible vocabulary from the Touchstone IV textbook (units 1-8) are included in it.
  2. READING /20 points/ section will contain texts on general scientific topics with following questions on reading comprehension and main idea, choosing the best words to repeat the underlined idea, as well as choosing vocabulary in context.
  3. COMMUNICATION /20 points/ tasks will contain reading short conversations, completing and matching phrases, choosing the best expressions according to the given situations, matching questions and answers.
  4. WRITING /20 points/ tasks will be on how to write a formal letter, a recommendation letter, writing a CV, fill in application forms and answer job interview questions.

Master students, who are taking the test, please use TOUCHSTONE IV (Student’s book, Workbook) and “Writing at MUST /for Master students/” as the primary sources for the exam preparation.
